FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: How will I know if you're the right therapist for me?
A. During our initial consultation we are diligent in our assessment to determine if we can provide the support you need. Should we decide to proceed, you should have a reasonable idea after a few sessions if you and your therapist are the right fit. Should you or the therapist decide at any time during the relationship that your needs would be best suited elsewhere, we will provide you with several referrals. Any therapist who is professional and experienced will understand her limitations and recognize issues that are out of her scope of expertise. Neither party should feel negatively if the match is not right as the priority must always remain for you to receive the care and treatment to which you are entitled. Regardless of the circumstances, we will help you find a therapist who can address your chief concerns.
Q: How long are the appointments?
A. My individual one on one counseling appointments last 50 minutes which is standard practice for a typical therapy session. I do offer longer sessions upon request and in advance.
Group therapy appointments are 1 hour and 30 minutes in duration.
Q: How often will we meet?
A: It really depends on your specific needs and goals. I typically recommend bi-weekly, but will see clients weekly if I have availability and this is appropriate for your care. Group therapy meets once a week.
Q: Do you accept insurance?
A: No, I do not accept insurance. I can, however, supply you with a receipt of service. Most insurance providers will reimburse a portion of the cost of therapy for an out of network provider. You can contact your insurance company to find out more information including their rate of reimbursement. For my services, payments must be made after each appointment via credit card.
Q: Can I cancel one of our sessions?
A: Yes, of course, but I ask for 24 hours notice.
Q: Do you prescribe medication?
A: No, I cannot prescribe medicine.
Q. Will I feel supported to be my unique self in the group?
A. The answer is an emphatic yes! While it is true that group therapists cannot control everything that occurs within the group therapy setting, discrimination due to race, color, ethnicity, sex, religion, gender identity, sexual preference, age, and/or disability will not be tolerated under any circumstances in my groups. Nor will any violence or hateful behavior. This group environment celebrates diversity and inclusion and strives to attract a wide array of people and perspectives. This serves to add depth and richness to the collective group experience.
